Echelon Studios Releasing Classic Comedy, ‘Marmalade’, After 20 Years

Echelon Studios is bringing the completed film to audiences for the first time

Echelon Studios has acquired the worldwide rights to noughties comedy, Marmalade, a never-before-seen, formerly shelved title.

The film began pre-production in the early 2000s and went through a tumultuous behind-the-scenes process, with post-production never completed, preventing official distribution. Now finished, the film will hit screens for the first time, two decades after its completion.

Loosely based on the lives of writers and producers Jill Sorensen and Jennifer Kusner, who both also star in the film, Marmalade follows a fashion model who ages out of her profession at the same time as having her personal life collapse. The film offers a candid view of beauty standards and a bleak look of the often darker side of the modeling industry.

Speaking on the acquisition, filmmakers Jill Sorensen and Jennifer Kusner, commented: “Although we wrote and produced the film, we never had full control and unfortunately were unable to bring the movie to a point where it was possible to release. Two decades later however, we were able to take back control of our project and are thrilled it will now finally be seen by audiences!

“Despite being 20 years old, the film is still as relevant today, spotlighting ageism in the media and advertising seen through the lens of a fashion model being put out to pasture.”

Sandro Gohoho, President of Licensing and Logistics for Echelon Studios said: “Well, what a story! Marmalade has become somewhat of an elusive favorite amongst fans, but the journey to success has been a long one. We’re delighted to finally be able to bring this feature to viewers everywhere.”

Also starring Sarita Choudhury (The Hunger Games, And Just Like That), Sam Robards (American Beauty, Gossip Girl), Grant Show (Dynasty, Devious Maids), and with a surprise cameo from former President Donald Trump, the film will receive it’s VOD release later this month.

The newly restored version will join Echelon’s curated library of more than 20,000 titles across all genres, including international films, documentaries, and shorts.
