U.S. based production, distribution and foreign sales licensing company Echelon Studios, has acquired the international sales rights – excluding the Indian territory – of popular theatre writer and director Saif Hyder Hasan’s debut feature YES PAPA.
Echelon Studios, whose latest releases include the highly anticipated YOUN’G as well as Korea’s biggest hit of the year 12.12: The Day, has been in the film distribution arena for twenty years and finds in YES PAPA a great potential to draw audiences from all over including the U.S.A, Germany, U.K., Africa and other continents.
YES PAPA, described by India’s premier newspaper The Times of India, as “an 85-minute heartbreaking film which brings focus to the urgent need to break the silence around child sexual abuse” has already created a storm with its explosive content. Written and directed by Saif Hyder Hasan and featuring well known indie cinema names like Ananth Mahadevan, Geetika Tyagi, Divya Seth and Tejaswini Kolhapure, YES PAPA deals with a concept considered ‘taboo’ in Indian society. It lays bare the rather critical issue of incestual child sexual abuse and the life-long trauma of every survivor who has been a victim of incest, especially if the perpetrator is a parent.
Eric Louzil, President and CEO of Echelon Studios, commented: “YES PAPA brings attention to a subject that should no longer be swept under the rug and hidden from the world, in which, incestual child rape is not just a problem in India but exists worldwide. The sooner we can acknowledge this, the sooner we can come to grips and work to rid society of this outrageous act. It is Echelon’s pleasure to bring this subject through YES PAPA to light.”
