Echelon Studios has taken worldwide rights to David Brown’s directorial debut and follow-up feature on mental health within the Black community
Los Angeles, Calif., September 11, 2023 – Echelon Studios has acquired two life-affirming documentaries that explore the vastly underrepresented theme of mental illness, from American filmmaker David Brown.
An affecting feature film, Breaking the Stigma: ADHD in African Americans, delves into the agonizing toll attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) takes on those living with it. Depression Among Black and Minority College Students valiantly tackles the stigma surrounding depression among America’s youth with piercing intimacy and visceral force.
Speaking on the acquisition, Director David Brown, said: “I am beyond excited to collaborate with Echelon Studios and applaud them for believing in my vision.
“These projects break down the barriers surrounding dealing with depression and ADHD, which are incredibly important topics but haven’t been talked about enough, especially among the African American community.
“The exceptional team at Echelon perfectly aligns with the essence of these works and I can’t wait for them to be seen by audiences far and wide.”
Sandro Gohoho, President of Licensing and Logistics for Echelon Studios, commented: “We knew right away that these films deserved to be seen and we’re delighted to bring David’s authentic creations to Echelon audiences, continuing our commitment to bring original and inspiring cinema to those seeking it.”
Breaking The Stigma: ADHD in African Americans and Depression Among Black and Minority College Students join Echelon Studios’ content catalogue centering or touching upon mental illness, including My Brother Khosrow, Blue, A Dream Called Death and the newly acquired MI Healthy Mind, a TV series showcasing real-life mental health topics.
